Hovering Piano

As a music enthusiast and a novice in the keyboard, I wanted to understand the idea of music in space. What is the base note, in the spatial coordinates, viz-a-viz the same note's higher octave equivalent. I've been working on a new concept of musical instruments that don't need 'playing by touch', but work on human intuitive movements of arms.
